Project 1: Denotative and Connotative

Reflection:

Overall I am happy with my project. This was an exciting project because it made you think how the viewer is going to perceive from your work. It isn't just what you think it is; it has to be about what other people think as well. This made the connotative images hard to figure out an idea that was going to take my object and give it an overlying meaning as well. I believe my connotative images did a good job of having a different meaning. With one having my apple in an eye for the saying “apple of my eye” and the second connotative one was my apple sitting in a glass case as in a museum making it seem like the apple was expensive. The denotative section was the easiest for me because I just had to display the object as it is, it is what it is. I am very proud of a few of my denotative ones, and I walked away happy with them which is rare for me. The hardest part of this project for me is not trying to be a perfectionist. I like things to be certain ways, and to take risks in art is hard for me. One of my goals this semester is to throw my self into a project with no plan and see what I come up with. I could improve my work by thinking less, I overthink about just everything I do that is just how I am wired, so my work could have benefitted if I didn't know what I was doing. Overall happy with my first projects and look forward to improving.

Project 2: Activating Materials

First Iterations

Final Iteration: To Connect

Reflection:

Online it says "after your critique writes a short reflection about this project." So we have not done the critique yet, so I don't think I am supposed to do the reflection... but I will talk about my initial thoughts about the project. This project at first frustrated me when I made "to spill" with a wine glass and a spill, I thought I had nailed the project until Paul came over and crushed my idea. Even though I still liked my first Idea, I continued with the project and figured out that it was kind of hard to describe a verb with paper without using any literal meaning. However, I really liked my "to weave," and it was honestly kind of relaxing...
