Activity 1 - Marshmallow Challenge

1.Was there good communication in your group?

Yes there was good communication in our group. But I think that there could have been better communication. At the beginning only two of use were talking but by the end we were all working together.

2. What were the personal dynamics of your group - did one or more people emerge as group leaders? - Did everyone get to participate?

I feel that we did have a group leader, but he wasn't overly controlling. He got everyone to talk and had the idea for are project. At the beginning only two people were working together but as I said before by the end we we all working together.

3.Was your group ultimately successful in completing the challenge -Why or why not?

I would say kind of because are structure stood for about two minutes, but it was standing so that was good. But also we had the small tower so that was not good.

4. Did you find this challenge fun?

Yes I found this challenge to be fun. I believe that if I did this a second time that it would be more fun. Because I would know the problems that we encountered the first time and avoid them.

5.How would you do things differently if you were to do this challenge again?

I think that I would make more prototypes and talk more with my team mates. I would also plan for the weight of the marshmallow.

6. What were the difficulties you encountered?

Well the tower started to twist and wouldn't stand up straight and as we put the marshmallow on it started to twist more.

Activity 3 - The five Chairs

1.What was it like to build your chairs using the design principles you identified?

It was hard because we had to add toys and a chair that would hold a whining baby. We also decided to put a TV on the chair, I don't know if one-year-old watch much tv but this one did.

2.What was it like to create different iterations of your design?

It was interesting because I feel that it made thing easily when you got to the fourth one because you knew how to work as a team. You also by then set your plan in stone, so there was no changing it, so you didn't question your ideas. You just went with it.

3.What did you change along the way? What did you learn from your prototypes?

At first, we were just going to make a chair with toys around it and little leg holes for the babies legs. But then someone brought up that it was already invented. So the way we changed it and put a pad/TV thing in the circle for the baby to play on. And as we went through the four prototypes, we added a different number of legs.

4.Did anyone get stuck at any point? What was that like? What did you do to get unstuck?

The only place I would say we got stuck is on the toothpick one because it was hard to make a circle out of toothpicks and attach all the toothpicks together. It was hard and stressful when we got stuck. The way we got unstuck, is, to be honest, I think it was the motivation that we wanted it standing before the time ran out and at least, for me, it was to do better than the other teams because I didn't do to well in the last activity.

5.Which material did you enjoy working with the most? Why?

The clay, because it was so easy to form, and make any shape you wanted. It was also the least stressful one because we knew that we had time to finish.

6.Which material did you like the least? Why?

I didn't like the toothpick the least because they were so hard to attach to each other. With the time we had we couldn't make it pretty looking either. Another big problem we had with the toothpick is that we couldn't make a circle with just toothpicks.

7.Did the various materials effect, or change your design? If so, explain how.

With the cardboard, to be honest, everything went as planned, which was surprising because I thought the cardboard was going to be the hardest. The pipe cleaner just made the circle that goes around the baby not as wide. The clay everything went as planned. And the toothpick was just a mess, the circle wasn't a circle. The toothpick wouldn't stay together. And we had five legs instead of four which was in the rest of the designs.

8.Which material best expresses the essence of the chair your drew?

I believe the clay or the cardboard did because everything went as plan and I was happy with what we produced at the end of 5 minutes.
